He is as tall as his father. 못하다는 not as … as 또는 not so … as입니다. She is not as busy as she used to be. 몇 배는 as … as 앞에 twice, three times를 둡니다. This tower is twice as high as the building. = This tower is twice the height of the building. twice higher than은 글에서 쓰지 않습니다. 명사의 양은 as many · as much … as, 굳은 말은 as … as possible, as … as ever입니다. 같다의 다른 모양 the same as, similar to, different from은 전치사가 정해져 있습니다.

1. as 형/부 as — 같다

He is as tall as his father. She runs as fast as I do. 5장의 than처럼 둘째 as 뒤에는 같은 종류의 짝이 옵니다. as tall as his father(사람 : 사람), as fast as I do(그녀가 달리는 것 : 내가 달리는 것)입니다.

He's only thirteen, but he's as tall as his father.열세 살인데 아버지만큼 크다. as + tall + as.

Alice is as charming as she is bright.

This road is as busy as the highway at rush hour.

as big as · as quickly as · as much as

as bigger as · as tall than

-er를 넣거나 as와 than을 섞었습니다.

그래서 -er에는 than, as에는 as가 짝입니다. as tall than처럼 섞으면 짝이 맞지 않습니다.

세부 능력 · as 형/부 as

2. not as … as · not so … as — 못하다

She is not so silly as she used to be. 또는 She is not as silly as she used to be. 둘 다 표준 영어입니다. not as … as가 더 흔하고, not so … as는 글과 굳은 말에서 조금 더 격식이 있습니다. 선생님 노트의 "not so … as > not as … as"는 이 둘을 함께 알아 두라는 뜻입니다. He is so tall as his father.는 틀립니다. so … as는 not이 있을 때에만 씁니다.

"Pardon" is not so popular as "sorry" in spoken English.pardon은 sorry만큼 흔하지 않다.

This copy is not as clear as the original.

He does not work as hard as he did last year.

not as … as는 '덜'(less)과 같은 뜻입니다. 5장에서 본 대로, 짧은 형용사의 '덜'은 less tall보다 not as tall as가 자연스럽습니다. Jim is shorter than Tom. = Jim is not as tall as Tom. = Tom is taller than Jim.

used to. She is not so silly as she used to be. I used to drive to work, but now I take the bus. 모양이 비슷한 be used to N(~에 익숙하다: I'm used to this situation.)과 be used to [](~하는 데 쓰인다: This machine is used to lift stones. 부정은 didn't use to입니다.

3. 몇 배 — twice as … as, twice the size of

This tower is twice as high as the building. This tower is twice the height of the building. high → height, large → size, long → length, heavy → weight, expensive → price로 바꾸면 됩니다. 선생님 노트의 "twice as large as = twice the size of N", "double the price, half the price"가 이것입니다.

India's current military is twice the size of Pakistan's. = … twice as large as Pakistan's.

Women talk three times as much as men.

This garden is twice the size of mine. = twice as large as mine.

The new phone costs half as much as the old one. = half the price of the old one.

twice as large as · three times as much as · half as long as

배수 + as … as.

twice larger than · as twice many as · twice more

-er than은 '차이가 있다'만 말하고 '얼마만큼'은 숫자로 더합니다(two years older, 7장).

배수를 as 앞에 두었는지, 명사 모양(size · height · length)으로 바꾼 문장이 맞는지, many/much를 가렸는지 봐 드립니다.

5. the same as · similar to · different from

as + 원래 모양 + as입니다(as tall as his father, as fast as I do). -er를 넣지 않고(as taller as ✗), as와 than을 섞지 않습니다(as tall than ✗).

not as … as 또는 not so … as입니다(She is not as busy as she used to be.). 둘 다 표준이고 not as … as가 더 흔합니다. 긍정문에서는 so … as를 쓰지 않습니다. not as … as는 '덜'과 같은 뜻이고, 짧은 형용사의 '덜'은 less tall보다 not as tall as가 자연스럽습니다.

as … as 앞에 배수를 둡니다. twice as large as = twice the size of, three times as much as, half as long as. twice larger than과 as twice many as는 글에서 쓰지 않습니다. 명사 모양은 high → height, large → size, long → length, expensive → price입니다.

as many와 as much는 어떻게 다른가요?

as many + 복수 명사 + as(as many books as), as much + 셀 수 없는 명사 + as(as much time as)입니다. 굳은 말 as … as possible(할 수 있는 한), as … as ever(여느 때와 다름없이), as soon as, as long as, as far as I know, as well as(~만큼 잘 / ~뿐 아니라)도 통째로 익힙니다.

the same, similar, different

the same as, similar to, different from입니다(the same with ✗, similar with ✗, different than은 말). like(~처럼), unlike(~와 달리), compared with/to(~에 견주어)도 함께 익힙니다.

Tom is taller than Jim. = Jim is shorter than Tom. = Jim is not as tall as Tom.
