비교를 더 정확하게 — much · 숫자 · the -er, the -er · the -er of the two
차이를 세게 말하려면 -er 앞에 much · far · even · a lot을 둡니다(much taller). very taller는 없습니다. 차이를 숫자로 말하려면 숫자 + -er입니다(two years older, an hour later, 10% more). (The more you want, the more you get.). 점점 더는 -er and -er입니다(colder and colder, more and more useful). 그리고 둘을 견주면 the -er of the two입니다(The upper pool is the nicer of the two.). 셋 이상이면 the -est of all(8장)입니다.
1. much · far · even · a lot + -er — very는 안 됩니다
차이가 큰지 작은지는 앞에 붙이는 말이 정합니다. much taller, far more expensive, even better, a lot earlier는 차이가 크다는 뜻이고, a little taller, slightly more expensive, somewhat better는 차이가 작다는 뜻입니다.

|---|---|---|
| 크다 | much · far · a lot · a great deal · even · still | much taller, far more useful, even worse, still better |

3. the -er, the -er —
The more you want, the more you get. 앞의 the -er는 조건이고 뒤의 the -er는 결과입니다. 두 짝 문장이 쉼표로 이어지고, 각 짝은 the + -er(또는 the more + 형/부/명)로 시작합니다. The more, the merrier.(사람이 많을수록 즐겁다)

The less he sees her, the more he wants her.

5. 둘이면 the -er of the two
The upper pool is the nicer of the two. This is the nicest of all the five-star hotels in Cairo.
Who is the taller of the two boys? She is the younger of the two sisters.
둘 가운데 = the -er of the two.
Who is the tallest of the three boys? She is the youngest of the four sisters.
셋 이상 = the -est of the three · four · all.
The upper pool is the nicest of the two.
The upper pool is nicer of the two.
the가 빠졌습니다.
문법책은 말에서 the nicest of the two를 들을 수 있다고 적지만, 글의 기준은 the nicer of the two입니다. 문맥에서 둘인 것이 분명하면 of the two를 빼고 the nicer만 쓰기도 합니다.
