-er · more · as를 먼저 찾고, than · as 뒤에서 짝을 찾고, 두 짝이 같은 종류인지 봅니다. 글은 짝을 자주 줄입니다. that of · those of로 대신하거나(milder than that of Japan), 문맥에 있는 짝을 빼거나(warmer than last year), 굳은 짝(than expected, than usual, than ever)을 씁니다. 자주 틀리는 것은 정해져 있습니다. as twice many, never, freely, more taller, the nicest of the two, than Japan, very taller, look beautifully, like very much tennis. worth는 명사 · ~ing를 받고, worthy는 of를, worthwhile은 to []를 받습니다.
비교의 표시(-er · more · less · as)를 찾고, than이나 둘째 as 뒤에서 짝을 찾고, 앞에서 그 짝과 같은 종류의 말을 찾습니다.
|---|---|---|---|---|
| He's only thirteen, but he's as tall as his father. | as … as | he | his father | tall |
| "Pardon" is not so popular as "sorry" in spoken English. | not so … as | "Pardon" | "sorry" | popular |
| Public support for the government is as strong as ever. | as … as ever | public support (now) | ever (지금까지의 어느 때) | strong |
| She is not so silly as she used to be. | not so … as | she (now) | she (before: used to be) | silly |
비교의 짝은 사람 · 물건뿐 아니라 때(ever, before, last year)이기도 합니다.
The students [who took the new course] scored higher than those [who took the old one].무엇이: the students (새 과정) / 무엇보다: those (옛 과정) / 잣대: high.
Cities [in the north] grew more slowly than cities [in the south] during the decade.

- Public support for the government is as strong as ever.
- She is not so silly as she used to be. 지금의 그녀와 예전의 그녀그녀와 다른 사람she used to be = 예전의 그녀.
- The students who took the new course scored higher than those who took the old one.
- Cities in the north grew more slowly than cities in the south during the decade. (예: A / B / C) → cities in the north / cities in the south / slowly.
- Participants who exercised regularly reported fewer symptoms than those who did not, and recovered faster.
2. that of · those of, 그리고 생략된 짝 되살리기
The climate of Korea is milder than that of Japan. It is warmer today (than yesterday). 셋째, 굳은 짝을 씁니다. than expected, than usual, than ever, than before, than necessary, as expected, as usual.
|---|---|
| The prices here are higher than those in my hometown. | … higher than the prices in my hometown. |
| Sales were lower than expected. | … lower than (we had) expected. |

| He can run faster than I. | … faster than I (can run). |
| The report was as detailed as expected. | … as detailed as (we) expected (it to be). |
The climate of Korea is milder than the climate of Japan.
