남의 말을 옮기면 He said that … 현재 → 과거, 과거 · have pp → had pp, will → would, can → could, may → might, must → had to. 사람(I → he), 때(today → that day), 곳(here → there)도 말하는 사람 쪽으로 옮깁니다.
(She said that …) |
|---|---|
| "I am tired." | she was tired. |
| "I am working late." | she was working late. |
| "I saw the film." | she had seen the film. |
| "I have finished." | she had finished. |
| "I had never been there." | she had never been there.
| "I will call you." | she would call me. |
| "I can swim." | she could swim. |
| "I may be late." | she might be late. |
| "I must go." | she had to go. (또는 must 그대로) |
| "I should / would / could / might …"
"I saw the film."
The teacher said that water boils at 100°C.
She told me that she lives in Busan.
He just said he is hungry.
He says he will come.says(현재)가 기준점이면 옮길 까닭이 없습니다.
She said that if she had time, she would help.
"Where do you live?" → She asked me where I lived.의문사 뒤는 보통 문장 순서(주어 + 동사). do 는 사라집니다. where did I live ✗
"Are you ready?" → He asked if (whether) I was ready.yes/no 질문은 if 또는 whether 로.
"Close the door." → She told me to close the door.명령은 tell/ask + 사람 + to [].
"Don't be late." → He told me not to be late.부정 명령은 not to.
"Let's start." → She suggested starting. / She suggested that we start.
|---|---|
| today, tonight | that day, that night |
| yesterday | the day before, the previous day |
| tomorrow | the next day, the following day |
| now | then, at that time |
| ago | before |
| here, this | there, that |
| I, my, we | he/she, his/her, they (말하는 사람 쪽으로) |
She said (that) she was tired. / She told me (that) she was tired.say 뒤에는 듣는 사람이 바로 오지 않고(said me ✗), tell 뒤에는 꼭 옵니다(told that ✗).
He explained that the train had been delayed.explain 은 that 덩어리. explained me ✗ (explained to me).
She promised (that) she would come. = She promised to come.promise, agree, refuse, offer 는 to [] 로도.
He admitted (that) he had broken the window. = He admitted breaking the window.admit, deny, suggest 는 ~ing 로도.
The doctor recommended that she take a rest.recommend, suggest, insist, demand 뒤의 that 덩어리는 원형(격식). took ✗, takes ✗.
The teacher insisted that everyone be on time.
She said that she is tired. She said that she was tired.

"Where do you live?"
She asked me where I lived.
tell 뒤에는 듣는 사람이 꼭 오고(told me that), say 뒤에는 바로 오지 않습니다(said that / said to me that).
