Yesterday I go to the market. I buy some apples, and then a man bumps into me and I dropped them.

Yesterday I went to the market. I bought some apples, and then a man bumped into me and I dropped them.

When Mina opened the box, she found an old letter. Her grandfather had written it in 1965, the year he left his village. "Letters travel slower than people," he had joked once. Mina has kept the letter ever since, and she still reads it every spring.

기준은 과거(opened, found). 그 전의 일은 had pp(had written, had joked). 지금까지 이어지는 결과와 지금의 습관은 have pp 와 현재(has kept, reads).

She said, "I am tired."

That day changed my life. I still think about it.

Coral reefs support a quarter of all marine species. Over the past thirty years, however, warming seas have destroyed nearly half of them. In 1998, a single heat wave killed 16 percent of the world's reefs. Scientists had assumed that reefs recovered within a decade, but recent surveys show that recovery is far slower. If current trends continue, most reefs will disappear by 2050.

지금까지의 변화는 have pp(have destroyed: over the past thirty years). 더 전의 생각은 had pp(had assumed). 예측은 will(will disappear: by 2050), 조건 덩어리는 현재(continue, 8장).

지금까지의 변화와 연구 전체 ("지금 우리가 아는 것")have ppover the past/last decade, in recent years, since 1990, so far, to date, recently
특정한 때의 사건과 연구과거in 1998, last year, two decades ago, when the study began
그 사건보다 더 전의 생각과 상태had ppby then, until + 과거, before + 과거, previously
예측과 제안will, may, couldby 2050, in the coming years, if …
For the past eight years 와 eight years ago 는 왜 모양이 다를까요?

for the past eight years 는 "지난 8년 동안 → 지금까지"라서 상자가 열려 있고(have pp), eight years ago 는 "8년 전에"라서 상자가 닫혀 있기 때문입니다(과거). 설명하는 글의 어법 문제는 거의 전부 이 표시어 읽기에서 갈립니다. in the last decade, since, so far, to date 를 보면 have pp. in + 연도, ago, last 를 보면 과거.

Kim (2019) argues that cities need more trees.

Kim (2019) surveyed 2,000 households and found that …

Several studies have found that …

This paper examines …; The results show …; We conclude that …

Orwell wrote the novel in 1948. The novel describes a world where …

yesterday, last …, … ago, in 1990, when I was ten, the other day, once과거

Since 2000, the town grew rapidly. ✗ since → has grown.

He opened the door, looked around, and walks in. ✗ → walked.

By the time help arrived, the fire destroyed the barn. ✗ → had destroyed.

We will leave when the rain will stop. ✗ → stops.

The boy walks into the room and sees the dog. He freezes.

The boy walked into the room and saw the dog. He froze.

  2. 2장현재 = 늘 그렇다 (습관, 사실, 시간표, 주장, 줄거리). he/she/it 은 -s.
끝난 때 표시어. used to(습관·상태), would(되풀이 동작).
닫는 말과 못 쓴다. have been ~ing = 지금까지 쭉.
  7. 7장미래 네 가지: 현재(시간표) → be ~ing(약속) → going to(계획·징조) → will. by … 면 will have pp.
묻는 when/if(명사 덩어리)는 will.

Last week I visit my aunt and she gives me a book. 기준 과거. visited, gave

In the last decade, movie production advanced greatly. 틀림. in the last decade → has advanced.

기준보다 앞(had pp), 지금과 이어짐(have pp), 언제나 참(현재), 예측(will).

Orwell wrote the novel in 1948. The novel describes …

for the past eight years 와 eight years ago 의 틀은?

for the past eight years 는 지금까지 → have pp, eight years ago 는 닫힌 상자 → 과거.
