For example, the first step in servicing or installing equipment is talking with the clients to understand how they used the equipment.
The customer service representatives in an electronics firm under major restructuring were told they had to begin selling service contracts for their equipment in addition to installing and repairing them. This generated a great deal of resistance. ( ① ) To the service representatives, learning to sell was a very different game from what they had been playing. ( ② ) But it turned out they already knew a lot more about sales than they thought. ( ③ ) The same is true in selling. ( ④ ) The salesperson first has to learn about the customer’s needs. 앞 문장과 뒤 문장을 자연스럽게 연결하기 위해 앞뒤 문장에 공통 단어나 아이디어를 넣는 경우가 많습니다.
첫 문장에 customer service representatives, 두 번째 문장에도 service representatives가 등장합니다. 그리고 두 번째 문장에는 새로운 아이디어 'sell'이 등장합니다. 세 번째 문장에 공통 아이디어 'sale'이 등장하여 자연스럽게 말이 이어지고 있습니다. 네 번째 문장 "The same is true in selling."에는 the same이 무엇을 가리키는지 명확하지 않습니다. 박스 속의 말을 넣어 보니, '고객과 대화하는 것이 첫 번째 step'인데 '판매'할 때도 똑같다는 말로 자연스럽게 연결됩니다.
