If you think old novels are slow, try Little Women by Louisa May Alcott. It follows four sisters, Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy, while their father is away at war. I expected a dull story, but it became one of the warmest books I have ever read. First, the four sisters dream of very different lives, so you will probably see yourself in one of them. Second, their small quarrels and kind acts feel like the ones in my own family. If my cousin had not lent me her copy, I would have missed this wonderful book.
