A: My brother's birthday party is next Saturday in the park, and I'm worried that the balloons will float away. B: I think you should skip balloons this time. Once they drift off, they can end up in rivers and the sea. A: But he loves them. What else could make the picnic table look bright? B: Paper flags or a colorful tablecloth would look just as cheerful. A: That sounds nice. I'm also worried that we'll use too many plastic plates and forks. B: Then I think you should bring real plates from your kitchen or borrow some from your neighbors. A: Washing them afterward will take a while, though. B: Ask your guests to help. With five or six people, it should take only ten minutes.

앞선 일을 말하는 Having pp 덩어리(Having walked along the river, …)와 the idea of + ~ing(the idea of adding lids …)

To the City Council: Having walked along the river behind our apartment complex every morning this fall, I am sure that its plastic problem is getting worse. Cups, bags, and bottle caps now gather in the reeds below the bus stop. Most of this trash seems to blow out of the open bins on the riverside path, and heavy rain washes more of it down the storm drains. I strongly support the idea of replacing those bins with covered ones that the wind cannot tip over. I also ask you to consider the idea of placing a simple net at the end of each drain. Having seen the reeds fill up again only days after a cleanup, I believe these two changes would protect the river better. Please sign this petition and share it with your neighbors.
