A: Welcome to our library. Let me introduce you to the self-checkout machine beside the main desk. B: Thanks. How does it work? A: You lay your books on the tray, and the screen lists their titles almost instantly. Then you tap your student card. B: Wow, that's simple. What do you think of it compared with checking out at the desk? A: It saves time, but some students walk away without making sure that every title is listed. B: I see. What do you think of putting a small sign above the tray? A: Great suggestion. What do you think of drawing it yourself? You told me you enjoy art. B: Gladly. I'll draw a rough sketch tonight, and you can tell me if it is clear enough.

전치사 하나 뒤에 ~ing 둘을 and 로 이은 덩어리(by ~ing and ~ing)와, '~인지'를 뜻하는 if 덩어리(check if …)를 한 번 이상씩 쓰세요. (100~140 낱말)

The barcode scanner at a supermarket checkout looks simple, but it does several jobs in a fraction of a second. Each product carries a barcode, a row of black bars and white spaces of different widths that stands for a number. When the cashier passes an item over the scanner, a beam of light hits the code. The black bars absorb most of the light, while the white spaces reflect it back. By measuring the reflected light and turning the pattern into a number, the scanner identifies the product. The store's computer then looks up that number in its database and checks if the item is on sale that day. Thanks to this process, shoppers wait less in line, and the store can keep track of how many items remain on its shelves.
