Under the White Roofs is a novel about a teenager whose city grows hotter every summer. One July, she persuades her neighbors to paint their dark roofs white. What I liked most was the way the story turns a science lesson into an adventure. The neighbors laugh at first but change their minds when they feel how much cooler her home has become. What the novel shows is that small actions can spread from one street to a whole city. I recommend it to any reader, provided that he or she does not expect a fast-paced thriller.
