Every day, we use phones and computers to study, chat, and play games. The internet makes our lives easier, but it also has hidden dangers. You may hear your friends talking about a strange text message or a stolen game account. Most of these problems can be prevented with three simple habits.

First, be careful with messages that contain links. Many messages pretend to come from a company that delivers packages, a bank, or even a friend. They often tell you to click a link right away, or they ask you to enter your password. They want you to act before you have time to think. Real companies do not ask for passwords in text messages. To check a message from a company, open its official app, not the link.

Second, make your passwords strong. A strong password is long and hard to guess, so avoid using your name or your birthday. Instead, join three or four random words. Use a different password for each account. Never share your passwords, even with your best friend. If an app offers a second check, such as a code sent to your phone, turn it on.

Third, protect your personal information. On social media, you often see people sharing photos of their daily lives. Before you post anything, however, think about who might see it. Never post your home address, your phone number, or your daily schedule. Even a photo of your school uniform can tell strangers where to find you. If you see a stranger asking for your address in a chat, stop replying and tell an adult.

Problems can still happen. If someone online makes you feel uncomfortable, tell a parent or a teacher you trust right away. Your teacher may tell you to block and report that person. You do not have to solve problems alone. With these smart habits, you can enjoy the internet safely.
