Last Friday was our school festival. There were game booths in the hallways and a talent show in the gym. Our class trophy stood on the top shelf of our classroom. It was a gold cup from last year's singing contest. To us, it was the most important thing in the room.
At noon, our teacher, Mr. Novak, saw the empty shelf. "Where is our cup?" he asked. Nobody knew, so Mirae and Finn looked for clues.
It rained that morning, and there were muddy footprints near the shelf. Finn put his foot next to one of them. The footprint was longer than his shoe. Finn had the biggest feet in our class.
Next, Mirae looked up at the shelf. It was the highest shelf in our classroom. Even Mr. Novak could not reach it without a chair. But there was no chair under the shelf.
Mirae and Finn looked at each other and said, "Coach Hwang!" He was the tallest person in our school, and his feet were the biggest of all.
They ran to the gym and found our cup next to the stage. "I'm sorry," Coach Hwang said with a smile. "I came in from the wet field and took it. The principal wants all the class prizes on the stage today. I left a note on Mr. Novak's desk."
Later, they found his note under the desk. That afternoon, our cup looked more beautiful on the stage than on our shelf.
