The blue bike by our front door is not new, but it is the best thing I have ever bought. I have been riding it to school for a month now.

This spring, my old bike became too small for me. I had 110,000 won from my birthday, so I decided to buy a used bike. That night, I found dozens of ads on a secondhand app. Some bikes cost 60,000 won, and others cost 180,000 won. In the photos, however, they looked almost the same. I wanted a good bike at a fair price, but I did not know what to look for.

The next day, I visited a bike repair shop near my school. The owner, who has been fixing bikes there for twenty years, gave me a free lesson. First, he showed me how to check the brakes. "Squeeze both brake handles and push the bike forward," he said. "If the wheels still turn, the brakes are weak." Next, he lifted the back wheel and turned the pedals. "A good chain runs quietly," he said. Finally, he pointed to tiny cracks on an old tire.

My grandfather gave me the last lesson at home. He taught me which size to choose: when I stand over the bike, both feet should touch the ground. For three weeks, I compared new ads every evening and visited four sellers. One bike had weak brakes, another had a cracked tire, and a third had a noisy chain. The fourth bike, a blue one for 95,000 won, passed every test. I had seen worse bikes for 150,000 won, so I knew the price was fair.

Since I brought it home, I have been checking the brakes and the chain every Sunday morning. Lately, my cousin Eunwoo has been asking me where to find a good used bike. I already know where to take him first: the little repair shop near my school.
